Date Morning

Thank you Grammy and Papa for coming to spend the night so that Lesley and I could get up at 3:45 in the morning and go to Piney Grove preserve (Nature Conservancy) with folks from the Virginia Ornithological Society and Center for Conservation Biology. Saw our first red-cockaded woodpeckers, lots of other great birds and some beautiful places. All before nine in the morning. We might not have had a date like that since before kids!

Oh... THAT date

Cute worksheet from Heath for Mothers Day:

"You are special to me because you help me when I'm sad. My favorite thing about you is you take me to sky zone. Thank you for letting me play on the iPad (eye pad). Love, Heath"

But the best part is the Date.

Land O Lakes Infinity

Alder wanted to see if the box of land o lakes that the lady was holding on the land o lakes box, also had another lady on it holding a land o lakes box....... and on and on and...

What a dissapointment.

Heath's Plan

Last Saturday, Alder went to a STEAM Minute-to-Win-It challenge at the science museum.  In short, he has been practicing with a small group, three friends, in his class lastly, working on finding the quickest way to solve little problems while timed.  This involves applied physics and hand-eye coordination, plus just fun.
Here's Alder's whole class group. His class was representing their whole school.

And here is Alder's team. I hear they just clicked as a team at what ever they did, in the competition and otherwise at the museum that day.

Heath and I spent the morning at home while Lesley and Alder were at the museum.

As Alder and Mom arrived home, dropped off by neighbors, Heath and I were plotting Heath's future plans in the swing.  No edits… enjoy.

Broccoli Stalk, Anyone?

I like to eat these too. What a yummy thing we often toss out.
While working in some math.

Early Heath

Heath is not the notorious painfully early riser he used to be. But every now and then he is ready to bounce well before six.  Today was one of those days.
So we went out and made first cuttings on little spinach plants.
And he ate lots of it with breakfast-also a new thing for Heath.

Game faces

We have been loving time outside in the evenings and mornings lately, rediscovering flowers, noticing things coming up differently this year than last, and lots of various ball playing, biking and neighborhood walks.

And here are a couple from a hike we took with Granna and Aunt Elizabeth last week.  SO very glad they were able to come visit and we were all able to spend wonderful time together outside.

Snippet from Heath's Writing Journal

Translation: "I don't like school because there's homework (which there isn't in kindergarten(??)).  I wish my teacher gave me one-hundred dollars so I can buy a phone."

Last Days of Seven

Late Friday night.
