When Heath brushes his teeth, he's done in less than 20 seconds. So we have a timer, so he can make sure he does so for 2 whole minutes. But... without some supervision, or reminding, or making him "go back and REALLY brush your teeth, Heath", he defaults to the quick job. After all, "brushing teeth is so boring"
Part of the fun for us though is watching him muscle and grimace through the job. So I got this:

Cold one
Low twenties tonight. Feeling the feb in RVA. Les and boys just got back from an owl prowl with her ornithology class. I got back a bit before with pizza to start a fire. Spent my last hour and a half of the day finishing a proposal at a local brewery (with which I have arranged a deal to have them brew a beer in May to celebrate our programs 30th anniversary and the discovery of a dragonfly on the James river in Richmond that only exists in four other places in the world). Warming up before some foosball.

Basketball
Alder's team, which I am helping coach. First year for us both: he's a rookie, I'm an assistant. We are both enjoying it. So far, undefeated. Halfway done with season. Here's some of the team, totally cutting up. They play great together. Buncha good kids.

Bedhead
Lately Alder puzzles about 'just why his hair is shaped so weird', blaming it on the way it's cut. I tell him, 'it's not the way it's cut. You have a bed head'. And he has had a bedhead for most of life aside from the occasional special occasion. So I will help him comb it, which starts with sticking his head under the bathtub faucet. And he claims to still not like it but I know he appreciates it and is realizing that truly there is nothing wrong with his haircut. Or the shape of his head. (nor having a bad head every now and then) So today, when we were having the same conversation in the bathroom, I said, 'look, I will take a before and after picture.' When I took a before picture he had the puzzled, grumpy look on his face. And when I took the after picture I told him to smile. We got a good laugh out of this. He pointed out that it was like the advertisements where the people lose a bunch of weight: in the first picture they look really sad and slumped and in the second picture they look happy and the light is prettier. This was fun. Here's the before and after:

Big Snow
Man we got buried. It was so fun, then so messy, then so inconvenient (overzealous school closings and getting way behind on work). But months and years from
now we will only remember the fun part.
